Recover as Hard as You Train: Inside the Elite Movement Clinic
Tremayne Gillings
Pushing the limits can be one of the highlights of training, but what happens when you don't look after your body? That is where the Elite Movement Clinic steps in. The Elite Movement Clinic specialises in rehabilitation and recovery for athletes of all disciplines, focusing on personalised treatment programmes that address root causes rather than just symptoms. Their experienced specialists combine cutting-edge techniques with traditional therapy methods to optimise athlete performance and longevity.
We spoke with founder Trem (Tremayne Gillings), coach and former international athlete for GB and England. We wanted to learn more about his position in the strength and fitness industry and his perspective on a growing space. Wanting to know how it started for Trem, he shares, "For me, it all started with injury." His experience of frequent injury hindered his sporting career but shaped his understanding of what is needed to help athletes excel. His experience has shaped the success of the Elite Movement Clinic.
For the love of helping others, the clinic was designed to support athletes in pursuing excellence and reaching their full potential. The proper recovery and rehabilitation techniques complement the full effects of training.
Athletes and Injury
One issue consistently stands out when working closely with strength and fitness athletes. "The most common thing I see are lower back issues." These injuries can derail progress and performance, making proper recovery essential for longevity in sport. "Athletes work very hard in their training – whether that be gym, track and field, etc. I've made it my goal to instil knowledge of the importance of recovery to get the best out of performance."
A message that is not always easy to convey, but in an industry where hard work is revered and dedication to training is championed, not recovering correctly can easily throw all of that away.
"Recover as hard as you train"
Finding the balance can be difficult, but the two work together. Without prioritising recovery, athletes risk stagnation, injury, and ultimately, a shorter time performing at their best. Trem breaks it down here: "When you get injured, it exposes some of your weaker areas many people come out of rehab and forget the key areas they worked on to get them stronger. My advice would be to try to remember and fit in those key exercises to help them perform and stay injury-free."
Rehabilitation is not just about returning to where you were; it's an opportunity to return stronger. Yet, too many athletes neglect the valuable lessons learned in rehab once pain-free.
““Time and effort to get things done and having the knowledge as to why it is important.””
For many athletes, recovery can feel like an afterthought, especially when training schedules are intense. Yet, taking the time to implement proper recovery strategies is essential to sustaining performance over the long term. The message is clear: strength and recovery go hand in hand. The Elite Movement Clinic is not just about fixing injuries; it's about creating stronger, more resilient athletes who can push their limits without breaking down.
So, if you train hard, make sure you recover just as hard.
Representation in Strength and Fitness
The strength and fitness industry has long faced challenges with diversity and inclusion. To understand how professionals from different backgrounds are shaping the future of the field, we asked Trem about his experiences as a Black practitioner and how representation impacts both practitioners and the communities they serve.
"Coming from South London, as I've grown up, I've seen a lot of talent 'go to waste' for several different reasons, one of which is injuries and being unable to afford it. So I work closely with a few training groups/clubs to help where I can."
Access to proper support can be the difference between untapped potential and a thriving sports career. The Elite Movement Clinic is committed to bridging that gap where possible.
Trem's commitment to serving underrepresented communities extends beyond individual client work. He regularly hosts workshops in areas with limited access to specialised healthcare, bringing his expertise directly to those who might otherwise never receive it.
Through his work at the Elite Movement Clinic, Trem and his team are not just healing injuries; they are helping to reshape an industry to become more accessible, inclusive, and effective for all athletes, regardless of their background or circumstances.
